WHAT IS PRP (PLATELET-RICH PLASMA)?
Your blood contains plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Platelets play a crucial role in promoting cell repair and supporting immune function. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a treatment that uses a concentration of your own platelets to naturally stimulate and accelerate the body’s healing process.
HOW DOES PRP WORK?
A small sample of your blood is taken from your arm and placed in a centrifuge, which spins the blood to separate its components—red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The platelet-rich portion is then isolated and mixed with plasma. This concentrated solution is injected into the targeted area. It’s a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure using the body’s own healing factors to promote recovery.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
During your initial visit, we’ll go over your medical history and conduct a physical examination to see if PRP is a suitable option for you. Once confirmed, we’ll draw your blood, process it, and prepare the PRP for treatment. A numbing agent is applied to minimize discomfort before injection. The PRP is then administered directly to the affected site. The entire process takes about an hour, and visible improvement typically begins within four to six weeks.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?
Recovery is usually quick, with little to no downtime. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.
DOES IT HURT?
At The Wrinkle Wrangler, we use numbing cream to ensure your comfort. Some patients report feeling a minor pinch during the injection, but it is generally not painful.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Because PRP is derived from your own blood, the risk of adverse reactions is low. However, as with any injection, there is a small risk of infection, bleeding, or local tissue irritation.
PRP POST CARE
You might feel mild soreness at the injection site, which usually subsides within a few days. Avoid taking anti-platelet medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Naproxen for two weeks following treatment. If you experience discomfort, apply warm pack to the area for 10 minutes, three times a day for the first three days. Heat encourages better blood flow and boosts the release of healing growth factors.
